Dear Nestle
Could you please help to settle a £50 bet? It concerns the pronunciation
of the name Nestle. I say it is pronounced 'Nessel' but my know-it-all
wife insists it is pronounced 'Nestlay'.
You may at the same time be able to help me with something else as well.
I have never been a great chocolate lover, but after a meal in a Chinese
restaurant in London recently the waiter gave me a wafer-thin, square,
mint-flavoured chocolate, which I found to be quite delicious.
In order that I could buy some later I asked the waiter for the name
of the chocolates. He said they were called 'Affreyeymin'.
Since then I have tried to buy some Affreyeymin in every sweet
shop in the locality, but nobody seems to have heard of them,
except perhaps for the man at Thornton's, who for reasons best
known to himself was quite abusive.
It has occurred to me that Affreyeymin could perehaps be Chinese
in origin, and specially imported from China by the restaurant.
However it could also be that Affreyeymin aren't very popular
in this part of the country and for that reason unobtainable.
With this in mind I am writing to all the main chocolate
manufacturers to ask them if they make Affreyeymin, and
if so who is my nearest supplier. I hope you can help me.
Yours faithfully |
